Associate Professor Koshy’s primary research foci is on the development of advanced materials for environmental and energy applications, particularly the transformation of waste materials /industrial by-products into value-added materials for economical and industrially-viable high-performance applications.
He is the co-leader of the NEMCAT (Novel Engineered Materials for Conventional and Applied Technologies) group in the School of Materials Science and Engineering UNSW Sydney which focusses on understanding the correlations between structure-properties for different conventional and advanced materials. He also leads the Vecor-UNSW collaborative research program for materials for energy and environmental applications through the Australian Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy.
In 2024, Associate Professor Koshy was awarded an Australian Research Council 4 year mid-career industry fellowship to undertake research for Vecor’s ceramics project to enable high volume manufacture using a novel nanotechnology of coated fly ash particles to simulate titania as paint pigment/filler. He has also won the Australian Citation award, the Faculty of Science Teaching Excellence Award and the Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Teaching Award.

Associate Professor Koshy has co-authored >150 publications, 4 international patents, supervised over 40 HDR (18 current) and 99 Honours students (10 current) to completion.
